Release of My New Book, Born-Again Dirt

I am very pleased to announce the release of my new book, Born-Again Dirt, Farming to the Glory of God. The Lord has enabled me to finally publish it after several years of study. I have profited much from what I have learned in writing Born-Again Dirt, even if no one else ever reads it. But I believe the message is very important for all Christians who steward the land, and would appreciate any help you could offer in promoting it. Please consider reading it and spreading the word if you find it encouraging or useful. Right now it is available only through my Createspace e-store (see ‘Order Book’ button on sidebar), but should be on Amazon within the next several days (It’s up now here). I would prefer that you purchase through Createspace if possible because they don’t take as much of the retail price as Amazon, but whatever works best for you is fine. I just pray that the Lord uses this book to bring Himself glory through calling His farmers to greater faithfulness in applying His Word to agriculture.

For more information about the message of the book I have posted the introduction below. You can also check out www.bornagaindirt.com.

Introduction:
When I started farming several years ago, this is the book I wanted to read. When the Lord began to convict me that my farm needed to bring glory to Him in the way it was designed and operated, I found there were very few resources to encourage and equip me. The majority of farming books weren’t written by authors with a Biblical worldview, with the refreshing exception of Joel Salatin. His books were extremely inspiring and instilled in me a desire to explore how my love for the Lord Jesus Christ should affect the way I farmed and viewed farming. Finding no existing books, I ended up doing my own informal research, and eventually felt that the Lord wanted me to write a book for the encouragement of other Christian farmers. After much toil and labor, this is the imperfect result.

The primary message of this book is that the transforming work of the Gospel in the hearts of farmers should also transform our agriculture. If we want to glorify God we must be Christian farmers, not just farmers who are Christians. The way we work the dirt must spring from a Biblical worldview. This is the concept of “born-again dirt”.

This book is primarily written for the growing number of Christian families and individuals who are moving back to the land and trying to learn to farm. This includes me. As the Lord works in our lives to change our hearts I believe we begin to value the benefits that an agrarian lifestyle offers:

•The ability to work with our hands
•The opportunity to work with and spend time with family
•The bountiful harvest of healthy, fresh food
•The reliability of providing directly for our needs in a fragile economy

However, there is a danger.

If we don’t recognize the spiritual battleground within agriculture and don’t purposely lay a biblical foundation for the way that we farm, then we will fail to give glory to God in our farming. Agriculture is dominated today by those who deny God’s existence or ownership of all creation, or by those who live as though He doesn’t impact our lives or the way we farm. And they are the ones, unfortunately, who provide the majority of the farming training resources available to us inexperienced Christian back-to-the-landers. We must equip ourselves with a solid, Biblical, agricultural worldview through which we can filter this information, or we will end up worshiping their idols.

I have begun the journey of transforming my farm so that every aspect of it is based in God’s Word. This is what I mean by having dirt that is “born-again.” Perhaps some people may be uncomfortable with my use of this term, but I believe it helps communicate the fact that Christians must view farming differently than non-Christians. A man who has been born-again has been given a new heart, and this new birth changes his perspective on the entire world. A farmer who is born-again should adopt God’s perspective on everything he does, including farming.

I am not a skilled writer, but I would like to share with the body of Christ some of the things I am learning from God that might be of benefit to others. My purpose is not to provide all the answers, but instead to raise questions, look at scripture, share testimony, and provide practical examples of application. I am not as concerned with convincing you to adopt particular methods as I am with challenging you to adopt biblical thinking as the foundation for your methods.

My desire is to see Christian farmers around the world begin a journey of seeking to glorify God though their farms. I want to see the whole Church rise up and take back agriculture for the Kingdom of God by not only farming, but also by being willing to support Godly farming. I believe this will result in the spread of the Gospel of Christ and also in the most successful farms the world has ever known.

To God be the Glory!

We believe that you are hitting the nail on the head with this, we all need to get back to Nature and Gods land. We will learn in the not to distance future, that most of our people do not know how to farm or harvest the land and your book is going to be a great tool. Thanks for your dedication to the Lord. RR

Bring us back to God’s reasons for doing God’s work.

  10. Hi Noah,
I just ordered my copy of your new book and am really looking forward to reading Born Again Dirt! It’s very exciting to think that every single thing in our lives can be done for God’s glory… more Christians need to understand what a Biblical Worldview looks like when living it out day to day and your book sounds like just the thing! Well done!!
    Amy

    1. Thanks for the encouragement. I really do believe that we need to rethink agriculture and base it in a Biblical Worldview. I hope this book will begin to help Christian farmers/gardeners to realize that every aspect of their life, even working the dirt, should reflect the Lordship of Christ.

  11. Your book just arrived. Can’t wait to read it.

  13. Hi Noah! I received your book in the mail yesterday and I am so happy with it that I ordered 2 more to share with friends! I also did a post about it on my facebook page to get the word out a little more for you. 🙂
There is no doubt in my mind that the Lord has led me to find your site and your book. I have been praying for a more Godly approach to the way I farm and take care of the animals that God has entrusted us with. Thank you for writing your book. I pray we will see more from you in the future!
May the Lord bless you in ways you never thought possible.

  15. Hi Noah;

Just finished your book, things have been very busy with an up coming move, and got a review up on my blog ( http://tonykonvalin.blogspot.com/2012/03/review-of-born-again-dirt-farming-to.html ). Great job, and definitely a book I will be giving away.

    1. Mr. Konvalin,

Thanks so much for the positive review and feedback! It is always encouraging. I pray that your move goes well.

      Noah

  16. Thanks for all your work and study on your book. I’ve heard GREAT reviews and I’m looking forward to reading it!

  17. Hi Noah. I stumbled across (really? there are no coincidences for us believers!) your blog today and have been so blessed by it! I plan on ordering your book for my 15 year old son ASAP. He’s shown a real interest in an agricultural lifestyle, and though we have chickens and a small garden, my husband and I are by no means farmers and I’ve wondered how best to nurture this yearning in him. We are homeschoolers as well and I see your book serving as a real mentorship to him. Being that you’re so young I’m thinking he might really identify with you and feel encouraged that if you an do it so can he!
Thank you for stepping out in faith and obedience to the Father; I can see you being a real role model for this next generation.

    1. Mrs. Boyer,

It is encouraging to me to get comments like yours because I get to see how the Lord is using my work to accomplish the very things I had hoped it would. I pray that the Lord gives you and your husband wisdom to help direct your son in the paths God has for him.

      In Christ,

      Noah Sanders

  18. hi noah..im from india and i hav jus finishd reading your book born again dirt…good work with your perspective of comparing farming your land with eden garden…njoyd it…
noah im curious to know what you think about farming practises in almolonga, guatemala…almolonga claims that GOD has healed its land to provide abundant harvest…it is considered to be the fullfillment of 2chronicles 7:14….i hav always believed in harvests of biblical proportions….not only in quantity of harvest but also the quality of harvest…i just needed to know an expert’s view of almolonga…

    1. Shobanashri,

It is amazing to hear that my book is being read all the way in India! It was actually just earlier this year that I first heard about Almolonga. It sounds like an amazing transformation of the village. I don’t know all the details, but I do know that when people turn their lives over to the Lord, it can and should have major impacts on their lives, even manifesting itself in being better farmers and stewards of the land. I believe that a Christian’s land should be some of the best cared for land around, because we work for the Lord. I know, however, that mine is not perfect, and I don’t always do a good job caring for my farm, but I pray that as I grow closer to Jesus, He will enable me to be a more faithful steward.

      Noah

  19. I was really encouraged what your book is about…farming God’s way. I haven’t read it yet, but I wanted to make this comment so I don’t forget. If you haven’t heard of permaculture you should check it out!! It stands for Permanent Agriculture, which studies the relationships between all living and nonliving things in order to work with nature instead of against. Most directly it applies to the garden, but the concept encompasses everything.

Keep strong and I will keep you in my prayers. 🙂
